Weekly Update 3/9/09

Greetings! Did you remember to “spring forward”?

Congratulations to
senior Hayes Perry for his acceptances to UNC-Charlotte, Western Carolina University, East Carolina University and Campbell University. Way to go, Hayes!

Thank you to
Matt Wilhelm, Michelle Banal and Glenn Mehrbach for leading a great trip to New York City. In spite of challenges and set backs it turned out to be a wonderful trip for all!

Kudos to our
basketball team for finishing the season well. Special thanks to Josh Stallings and Michael Berro who represented our school in the All-Star events yesterday. Also, thanks to Coach Greg for representing our school at this event and all season.

Additional congrats to our
Mathcounts team which showed marked improvement in their second year of regional competition. Special thanks to Mr. Dan for accompanying the team.

I’d be remiss to not mention the
terrific support of parents in all of these special events - NYC trip, Mathcounts and basketball. Without your support we could not offer such great opportunities to our students.

Foreign Language Immersion Day, a school-wide tradition, is Thursday, March 19. (Please note that school closes at noon this day and is closed on Friday, March 20 for Faculty Retreat.) In light of Celia’s extended absence this winter we will be holding a scaled-down version of the day. Never fear - food will be featured! Look for an important letter going home with your student tomorrow (Monday) that asks for your participation and explains the day more fully. Please return these forms by Wednesday so we will have the information needed to make plans at our weekly faculty meeting on Thursday.

Clubs, clubs, clubs! Many clubs start this week - Lower School soccer, drama, clay and running. Also, please remember that all ongoing clubs (newsletter, mathcounts and yearbook) require new sign up in order for your student to attend. Finally, we must finalize sign up for dance club so that we can solidify our arrangement with the Durham Arts Council. PLEASE RETURN YOUR PAPERWORK AND PAYMENT FOR ALL CLUBS TOMORROW (MONDAY).

Friday is Honor Roll Day for students who earned the distinction in both Modules 6 and 7. Honor Roll 7 will be announced on Wednesday.

Enjoy the rest of this gorgeous day.

Best,

Thelma
