Camelot Update 2014-02-23

Greetings!

Thanks to everyone for the great turnout at the Pie Supper on Thursday night.  The sense of accomplishment among our students was palpable on Friday.  I know I speak for all of us when I say how much we appreciate everyone making this time together a priority.

Ultimate Frisbee season starts soon!  Our team is coed, grades 6-12.  If your student is interested please download the forms here - "Team Sport Sign-Up:

Science Night, hosted by National Honor Society, will be Friday, February 28 from 5:30-8:30 PM.  Parents of Kindergarten through 6th grade students can enjoy a night out while kids eat pizza and participate in hands-on science activities at the school.  The suggested donation is $25 per student (which includes the pizza dinner) or $40 for two siblings.  Sign up at this link or on the sheet outside the Junior MAPP room. Flyers were also sent home with sign-up slips that you can return to the school:

As you might remember, National Honor Society is providing incentives for students to participate in community service.  We already surpassed the original goal of 300 collective hours, so NHS has offered a new challenge of 500 hours.  If we reach it, we will have an ice cream party in the spring!

Here are three upcoming service opportunities for students:

1.    National Honor Society is running a water station at the Florence Forth 5K and 10K which raises money to research autoimmune encephalitis.  If you are interested in running this Saturday, March 1, you can sign up here (until 2/25) and students can earn community service hours:  http://florenceforth.org

2.  The Crop Walk will be happening on April 6th.  More information coming soon.

3.  Several students have signed up to bus tables at the Urban Ministries Empty Bowls fundraiser on Thursday, March 6th.  Mark your calendars if your student has signed up and plan to bring your student to the Convention Center (where we had the Thanksgiving Feast).  We need one more person to sign up for the 5-6:30 PM shift.

Other Upcoming events:

Thursday, March 6 5:30 PM - College Planning Meeting (required for juniors and their parents, optional for others).

Monday, March 10 - deadline for Summer Program Early Bird Registration

I hope that you have a great week!

Camelot Update 2014-02-16

Greetings!

We must confess that Ms. Lori and her students did a snow dance on the roof a couple of weeks ago.  We will consider that skill "mastered and retained" and MOVE ON to other - warmer - accomplishments!

We are in the process of rescheduling family conferences.  We will do so with NO INTERRUPTION to the class schedule.  Please understand that this will take a few weeks and that this coming week our focus will be on getting back on track and hosting the Pie Supper/Academic Fair on Thursday.

Here are some important things to note regarding this wonderful event:

We WILL RUN After Care and Study Hall (no Lit Mag) on Thursday (although the calendar indicates "No After-School"). We will remain open to assist parents who are making up work hours due to weather closings.  You may pick up from Camelot and head directly to the Pie Supper.
- We need EVERY FAMILY to RSVP for this event here:

This will be a great opportunity to swap weather stories while we also support the great work of our students and enjoy a nice dinner.

Also, Summer Program Sign-Up is ongoing.  Be sure to take advantage of the March 10th Early Bird Discount.

If you have questions about your conference appointment, please contactMs. Lynne (lynne@camelotacademy.org).

Due to the short week of classes, there are no club meetings this Monday and Tuesday. The regular club schedule will begin the week ofFebruary 17.
