Camelot Update 3/25/12

Greetings!

How can one graduating class of just seven students rack up so much good news?  All I know is now we are really getting down to some nail-biters - as some of the most long-awaited decisions from First Choice schools are coming in....

Congrats to...

-Sarah Chetty on her acceptance to UNC Chapel Hill
-Eva Sutton on her acceptance, with a 60K Eugene H Thompson Merit Award, to Guilford College
-Will Cunningham on his acceptance to The Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts
-Ryn Wilkes on earning another $6000 in Merit Scholarships (theatre) from Manhattan Marymount College

The Classes of 2013 and 2014 have begun their college searches in earnest with many making trips this month.  Ms Lynne and I will be traveling with a group to Davidson College on Wednesday where we plan to meet up with Camelot alum and current Davidson student Michael Berro.  We have room for one more on this trip - please respond to this email if you are interested.

As I write this email our dozen travelers are on their way to spend the week in Yosemite. We'll post pictures to the website as we get them.

Speaking of pictures, thanks to Mr Scott for posting Immersion Day and Sr MAPP class project pictures on the website.  Check them out - they are an especially fun set!  Click here:

Mid Semester Grades were mailed home on Friday.  As you are aware, Mid-Semester Warnings are an important tool to keep everyone "on the same page."  Please sign and return all Warnings by this Wednesday.

Ms Roni will need to be out for a few days this week.  As such, Drama Club will be canceled on Wednesday and a make up session will be scheduled later in the semester.

Parent Service Opportunity!  Ms Lori needs 30 lab coats washed.  Please contact her directly at lori@camelotacademy.org if you need parent service credit and would like this assignment.

Ms Jenny is working with students to plant flowers around the school.  She asks that any families that find themselves with extra plants please send them to her in plastic bags labeled with the color and common name of the plant.  We are all excited about the added beauty on our grounds.

Finally, Spring Break will begin after school on Friday!  We will reopen on Tuesday, April 10.  I hope that you enjoy some down time with your family and have an opportunity to partake in our beautiful spring weather.

Best,

Thelma

Kudos to our Legos Robotics team who were invited to present at Creekside Elementary's Science Festival this week.  From all accounts they did a great job!

Our faculty retreat was hugely productive and we have a slate of exciting things to reveal about our plans.  What a great opportunity it was to have everyone who teaches K-12 together in one room to reflect on our practice, our goals and our dreams.  Look for a separate email with lots of info....coming soon.

Onwards to this week!

The office will be busy preparing Mid-Semester Grades to be sent home in the mail.  A week from today the Yosemite tripdeparts, Wednesday, March 28 I take a group to Davidson College (still space for 10th/11th graders- contact Lynne at lynne@camelotacademy.org) and on Friday, March 30 the basketball team will be traveling to a Bobcats game to celebrate their season.  It will then be time for Spring Break (April 2-9) before returning for the action-packed conclusion of the school year.
