Weekly Update 8/30/09

Greetings! We’ve emerged from a successful orientation and are eager to get down to the business of classes tomorrow morning. Thanks to all of the teachers for putting together such a remarkable orientation program. Special thanks to all of the parents who helped to unload the luggage of the travelers in the rain on Friday night - way to go with teamwork!

Regular school hours start this week with before and after school programming, including study hall. Please note that next Monday, September 7, we are closed for Labor Day.

Auditions for the music performance class and club will run all of this week. Auditions will be held at lunch and afterschool and everyone who wishes to participate - including those who did last year - need to audition. Students must sign up in advance (sheets are posted in the Big Hall by the stage (Dan’s classroom). Auditions will be for 10 minutes and are available to Upper and Middle Grades students with some degree of expertise on an instrument or with vocals. Students should come with their instrument tuned and ready to play a 1-2 minute piece. Vocalists should bring sheet music and Mr. Glenn will accompany you. Following the prepared piece there will be a brief interview. Audition results will be announced on Tuesday, September 8. Students who audition will be provided an information sheet with details about class schedule, fees and performance dates.

The soccer team has its first game this Friday (September 4) at our home field (Twin Lakes Park) at 4:30 PM. The game is versus Clover Garden School. Monday practice will be at Forest Hills Park and Wednesday practice will be at Twin Lakes. Directions are on the school website. Camelot will transport to all practices and the game. Parents should pick up from the fields.

In honor of the first soccer game
Friday is also the first Spirit Day of the year. Students are encouraged to wear our school colors - purple and gold - in a creative manner. Senior Molly Williams will share ideas on the subject in Morning Meeting this week.

Have a great week!

Best,

Thelma

Weekly Update 8/23/09

Greetings and Happy New Year!

The teachers and I look forward to welcoming you and your student(s) to campus this week. This is the first of the weekly emails you will receive from me each Sunday while school is in session. Please make it a point to read these emails no later than Monday midday as many timely and important reminders are included in these communications.

Faculty Updates:
We are thrilled to welcome two new players to our team-Jenny
Feaster as an Upper School math instructor and Daniel Raimi as a K-12 music instructor.

Jenny brings an outstanding background both as a math educator and as a curriculum consultant.
Annie Tally is continuing with us in the part time position of Math Consultant - she will be working with students in small groups and one on one in addition to advising on curriculum matters.

Daniel Raimi is a Durham native just back from an LA career that included film and TV scoring in addition to some exciting classroom work with students of all ages.
Glenn Mehrbach is continuing as our music performance instructor for students who choose to enhance their regular class schedule with the wonderful opportunity he provides. (Auditions for the performing groups will be the week of August 31.)

Heather Cramer, our K-12 art teacher, just made the hard decision to leave Camelot for a position that is closer to full time. We are in the midst of interviewing several exciting candidates and will await student input before making the final hiring decision.

Matt Wilhelm is joining Jill Sugg in the Upper School English department - he will be teaching one upper level English class (in addition to his history classes) that promises to be an exciting interdisciplinary adventure for all.
