Camelot Update 10/30/11

Greetings!

I look forward to seeing everyone today at the Fall Festival  – from 3- 5 PM.  Thanks to the planning of Ms Denise we’ll have games, food, prizes and more for our students and their invited guests.  The bounce house and dunk house promise to be hits - thanks to Mr Mike for spending much of yesterday getting it all set up.  We’ll have pizza from Mellow Mushroom - thanks to Greg Glynn for setting this up as an additional fundraiser for the school.  We still need cakes and baked good for the cake walk!  Students may wear their costumes although they should limit accessories that need to be carried so that they will have free hands for fun!  Thanks, in advance, to all of the parents who have volunteered to help set up (2 PM), run activities (3-5 PM) and clean up (5 PM-) – we could not do it without you! Overflow parking has been arranged at Learning Services (the big white building at the corner of Morehead and Vickers) and there is a new parallel parking lane that has been created in front of the school on Vickers.

Welcome to our newest studentUpper Schooler AJ Paolmar, and his family!  We look forward to all that he will contribute in the classroom and in the band!  We said good-bye this week to our visiting student from Germany, Kyra Riederer.  She and the Upper School vocal band brought us all to tears with her farewell serenade in Morning Meeting on Thursday.

Thanks to parents and Lego Robotics leaders Robyn Stephens and Chris Wilkes who led our team to a scrimmage this weekend.  Also, thanks to parents Bob Sutton and Liz and Brian Lord who were of great assistance.

This week:

Tuesday, November 1 – Semester Fee discount deadline

Wednesday, November 2 – 5:30 PM – Soccer Dinner at Carolina Ale House

Also, this week – Mid Semester Grades will be mailed home.  We look forward to working together to assist students in meeting their goals for the semester and for the year.

College Reps this week:
Monday – Highpoint University
Wednesday – Oglethorpe University

IPAD group WILL meet this Friday at 8 AM – parents – please send me any special requests.

Finally, Mr Mike is looking for parent service volunteers who are available for Saturday work between now and the holidays to help with leaf raking.  Please contact him at:

Camelot Update 10/23/11

Greetings!

We are just back from an exciting and productive trip to DC.  "Kudos" to faculty Matt Wilhelm, Amanda Fox and Scott Mitchell for shepherding the group safely and informatively through our great Capital.  Also, thanks to parents Ethel Benkin and Tracy Stell who lent wonderful assistance to all aspects of the trip.  It was truly a gift to be with our students as they witnessed the awe, grandeur, strife and conflict that comprise the story of our American history.  It was also poignant and meaningful to experience the Holocaust Museum together, the memory of which I'll hold onto for a long time to come. Thank you to all of the families who made this happen and thanks to all of the faculty and staff back at Camelot who kept everything running with excellence back at home.

We look forward to another big week at Camelot!

On Wednesday we have school and individual pictures.  Please be sure that students do NOT wear T-shirts for the whole school photo.  Homeroom and whole school picture orders are due by Tuesday.

Also on Wednesday, students who signed up will have a speech and language screening.

On Friday we look forward to our Fall Festival.  As you will recall, we are running this as an evening event (5-7 PM) for all of our students and their invited guests.  This is a fundraiser for our school, so please be sure to bring your friends!  Thanks, in advance, to Ms Denise for all of her leadership and to her team of parent helpers who are making this happen.

Message From Ms Denise:

Fall Festival Update:  Many thanks to everyone who came to the meeting Thursday afternoon.  If you weren't able to make the meeting don't worry---we still need you!!  I will try to get you by phone before the Fall Festival on Friday, but if I can't reach you, just come anyway and we will give you a job then!  And now, WE NEED CAKES!!  One of the events is a Cake Walk and for the prizes we will need lots of cakes, cupcakes, coffee cakes, and even a few batches of brownies and cookies.  Cakes should be covered in plastic wrap and dropped off at school Friday morning.  Thank you very much!  ~~Ms. Denise

Also, Friday is Mid-Semester.  Students have been reminded to strive to meet their pace and performance goals by that date.  Mid-semester grades/reports will be sent home in the mail the following week.

College Reps this Week:
Tuesday, October 25 – 10 AM Middlebury College

No IPAD meeting this Friday – I have a conflict!

More apps to explore:  Dragon Dictation (converts spoken word to text – great to get “ideas down” when stuck on a writing assignment); Phat Pad – a worthwhile app that converts handwriting to text, among many other things;GeoMaster Plus – a great tool for learning world geography.

Have a great week and I'll see you on Friday evening!

Best,

Thelma

Message from Ms Denise:
Camelot Families~~ Fall Festival is coming soon (Friday, October 28), and  the students are very excited!!  Thanks to all the parents who returned the orange sign-up sheet.  I would like to have a meeting of all those parents who are interested in helping out on Thursday at 5:00 PM to firm up plans and assign roles.  If you signed up to work but can't come to the Thursday meeting I will contact you by phone or email after Thursday.  It's going to be a great festival!!!!  ~Ms. Denise

Colleges this week:

Tuesday on our campus - University of Puget Sound and Davidson College.
Tuesday at 6:30 PM offsite - Yale University (see Guidance Calendar on our web site for details.

Wednesday on our campus – George Washington University

Finally, as the weather start to turn cooler, the number of lost and unclaimed pieces of outwear grows huge.  Please take a moment to label all items with your student's name or initials. Unlabeled items that go unclaimed for more than a couple of weeks are donated to charity.  I frequently use Morning Meeting time to hold up found items...often with no one claiming them.  Such is the fate of many a gray or pink hoodie!

Have a great week.

Best,
Thelma
