Camelot Update 1/30/2012

Greetings.

I hope that you are enjoying a nice Winter Break and are ready to welcome in 2013!

Our students return to school this Friday, January 4.  We will have pizza for everyone that day to celebrate the New Year!  At that time we will welcome new Middle Grades student Isaac Goldwater and his family to our Camelot Family.

Congratulations to senior William Radcliffe on his acceptance to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, seniors BriOleson and Josh Pettway-Hinton who were both accepted to Hofstra University with Presidential Scholarships (88K) and senior Max Fried who earned a Trustee Academic Achievement Scholarship from Eckerd College (68K).

Please remember that this Wednesday (January 2) is the deadline to place lunch orders for next week.

Other reminders:

Kindergarten, Junior and Senior MAPP students return to a regular schedule that will include end of semester assessments over the next week or so.

Middle Grades students have Special Session programming on Friday, January 4 before resuming their regular class schedule on Monday, January 7.

Upper School students return to an Exam Review Day on Friday, January 4.  Upper School semester exams begin on Monday, January 7.  (Please note that Friday, January  4 is both a drop-in Advisor Day and a day that crates will be out.)

Last Call - for Upper School math tests!  Students who have completed a math chapter over break and who wish to test on that chapter for inclusion in Fall Semester Reports  have two options:
1)    Email me to arrange to come in on Thursday, January 3 at 3 PM to take the test, AND/OR
2)     Plan to stay for after school study hall this Friday, January 4.
IMPORTANT - no student will be allowed to take a math test without turning in the corresponding Chapter Review. Performance on that Review must meet instructor prerequisites for test taking.  These are the ONLY times during which math testing for the Fall Semester will be permitted.

I hope that you enjoy your New Year and I look forward to seeing you and resuming our great work together when school reopens on Friday.

Best,

Thelma

Camelot Update 1/6/2013

Greetings and Happy New Year!

Before we leave the holiday season behind, a heartfelt "thank you" for all of the gifts, cards and treats that were bestowed upon us by our Camelot Family.

Kudos to junior Carolyn MacNair for her organization of a school-wide fundraiser to sponsor the adoption of a shelter cat and dog.  Her candy cane sales allowed us to sponsor Mason the dog and Oscara the cat!

This week Kindergarten and MAPP students begin their End-Of-Semester assessments and Upper School studentstake their Semester Exams.  The exam schedule is posted on our website here:

Upper School students should NOT be in attendance for sessions in which they do not have an exam.  We will be using all available spaces for exam administration.

Middle Grades students begin Second Semester classes tomorrow.

Thank you to senior Liz Reeder who will once again offer a Spanish review session to fellow students this Monday from 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM.  Although Liz has generously donated her services for these sessions, I have asked her to set up a "donation" box so that those who wish to do so can show their appreciation.  This particular session will be geared to final exam preparation and students should bring their questions and review materials. Please send me an email to sign your student up to participate.  Going forward, Liz may run a weekly group Spanish study session as part of our peer tutoring program.  This would be for students who want to participate on a regular basis and there would be a nominal fee involved. If you would like to consider having your student participate in these sessions, please let me know via email - as well as provide the days of the week that your student is available to stay after school.

This Wednesday will be FANCY CLOTHES DAY to celebrate the first home basketball game of 2013!  As is our routine, Camelot will transport Middle and Upper School fans for whom I've received parent email sign up by 5 PM Tuesday. Parents should pick up from the JCC at 5 PM.

We need just the opposite for Upper School attire on Thursday and Friday...work clothes that can get a bit dirty and sneakers.  As part of our Special Session activities we will be clearing out the attic to donate the contents to several charities.  It will be "all hands on deck" as we create a "human chain" to unload 30 years of accumulated "treasures" from the attic to the Big Hall.

Middle and Upper School Music Performance students (instrumental and vocal groups) will need to sign up to continue classes in the Second Semester.  Expect an email from Mr. Glenn.  Please let us know ASAP if your student does NOT plan to continue.  Students interested in JOINING one of the performance groups should send me an email so that I can set up an audition time with Mr. Glenn.

Per the School calendar, First Semester Grades will be mailed home on the following schedule:
Friday, January 18 - Middle Grades
Monday, January 28 - Lower and Upper School
Some components of Middle and Upper School grades/reports will be available online and you will receive an email when the portal is ready for viewing.

We had a super first day back and everyone seems ready and onboard to work hard, have fun and accomplish a great deal!  I can't think of a better way to go into the New Year.

Have a great week.
