Weekly Update 1/20/08

Hi. I hope this finds you warm and well and enjoying not only a three day weekend but a burst of winter wonder.

Congratulations to
senior Terran Daye who has been awarded an $11,000 per year scholarship to attend Campbell University. Combined with other awards he has received from the school he has earned a package of $51,800 over his four year college career! Way to go!

Congratulations to
seventh grader Zachariah Claypole-White who has won the Middle School Award for the Central Region of North Carolina in the Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet Series. Zachariah will receive his award at St Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg on April 3rd and will be mentored by poet and novelist Anthony S. Abbott. Stay-tuned for an announcement in the press later this week!

London is calling....we had a great meeting with our tour coordinator regarding the June trip to London. Families who let me know they have interest have been sent the information via their students. Our trip must enroll a minimum of 12 participants and a MAX of sixteen so please give this serious consideration and let me know your intentions. The deposit and insurance fee are due to our office by this Friday (January 25) and the balance is due in March. This is a private tour tailored to the itinerary designed by our faculty with great destinations, food, theater, hotel and direct flights. If you want more information, please send me an email!

Lower School families please remember that students are to be in class and participating (not coming in the door or unpacking belongings) by 8:30 AM. Teachers have noticed a definite impact on morning instructional time caused by the increasing number of students arriving late.

The
College Financial Planning Meeting originally scheduled for this week has been canceled. Instead, there will be two separate meetings in February for parents of juniors and also for parents of other underclassmen interested in information about the college process. Parents of seniors should be well underway with their preparation of the FAFSA and PROFILE forms needed to support their students’ requests for financial aid. Saturday, February 9, is FAFSA Day - free assistance will be offered from 9 AM - Noon at several locations across the state. Go to CFNC.org/.fafsaday to register. Of course, everyone should feel free to contact me with any related questions in the meantime.

Next
Monday, January 28, is our annual Happy New Year gathering at the Pie Supper. Information about this event was sent home with your student’s fall grades (orange flyer). The event is held from 5:30 - 7 PM at the Doris Duke Center at Duke Gardens. The idea is that everyone brings a pie to share - meat pies, pizza pies, fruit pies - and then we all sit down to a fabulous meal together. The event is purely social and a wonderful time to mingle with other Camelot families.

New clubs start next week. Look for another email from me this week dedicated to the topic of the next round of offerings!

Finally,
February 1 (next Friday) is the re-enrollment deadline for families wishing to sign up for the Two or Four payment contract options. Please contact Wendy with any questions.

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Best,

Thelma
