Camelot Update 2/19/12

Greetings!

Among the many joys of working with our young people is being a support as they learn to navigate the trials of growing up, face the challenges of tough academics and timeless life lessons and take their first steps of independence.  Part of the privilege of working closely with each year's graduating class is the opportunity to get to know these young adults just before we launch them into the world and to travel on this exciting journey with them.  Yesterday, a Saturday, was a day that highlighted the joys involved when I heard from two of our seniors who received their first college acceptances.  Congratulations to Sarah Chetty on her acceptance to Wake Forest University and to Tate Arges on his acceptance to Queens University.  Also, earlier this week, Will Cunninghamlearned of his acceptance to Drew University with a $6000 merit scholarship.

All of this good news from the Class of 2012 was a fitting capstone to the week of junior conferences that just wrapped up.  These meetings are the official beginning of the "launch sequence" towards Graduation 2013 and each and every one of these exchanges was a unique joy to participate in - full of much promise for the future.  In addition, the conferences of our younger students were especially constructive and meaningful.  More than a few times during the conference days I was struck by the commitment shown by parents attending in the middle of a work day and by teams of  teachers delving in with sincere enthusiasm and care.  We make these meetings a huge  priority in our annual calendar - it is difficult for all parties to stop everything and take the time to meet in person and exchange ideas and information.  It is an intense few days.  On the other side of it now, I am reminded how incredibly worthwhile it is for these meetings to happen and how valuable it is to keeping us all focused and maximizing the learning opportunities for our students.  A most sincere THANK YOU to everyone for being part of the ensemble that makes this such a worthwhile exercise.

After our well-earned long President's Day weekend we'll return to school on Tuesday.

On Thursday, we have an Open House from 4-5:30 PM.  Please refer your friends.

I may attend a conference in DC on Thursday and Friday.  I'll decide by Wednesday based on the demands of the week.  As such, there will be no iPAD meeting this Friday morning.  As always, whether I am on campus or not I will be in regular contact with the office and will be checking email.
