Camelot Update 10/2/11

Greetings and Happy October!
Congratulations to seniors Ryn Wilkes and Ryan Siebens who were named Commended Students in the PSAT/NMSQT Scholarship Competition.  They both scored among the top 50,000 of the 1.5 million test takers.
Also congratulations to the newest members of Camelot’s chapter of the National Honor Society:  Spencer Ahn, Bri Oleson, Elisabeth Parker, Josh Pettway Hinton, Brian Powell, Meg Rusconi-Warner, Rachel Roush and Josh Stallings.  Special thanks to Ms Jenny for coordinating our NHS Chapter and to all of the parents who helped with the induction luncheon.
Thank you to everyone who turned out for the 5K yesterday.  We certainly had beautiful weather and it was great fun to visit with parents and siblings and to meet so many canine family members!  Special thanks to AD Krista Moll for organizing the event and to Coach Jared for all of his help.
Thank you to all of the parents and family members for their help in making our parking lot arrival and departure times work well.  We have made great progress this week in minimizing the back ups.  Please continue to pull all the way down and over and to park in a space if you need to wait for an extended time or to enter the building.  Special thanks to Mr. Scott and to all of the teachers for their help in this process.
****Exciting Message from Ms Denise***
FALL FESTIVAL is scheduled for Friday, October 28th!  For the first time there will be booths, games, and activities for all of our students, grades K-12.  We will need lots of help from parents to make this year's Fall Festival a success.  Teachers will be handing out orange information sheets at student conferences this week.  If you are able to help you can sign up and return the orange sheet or you can contact me atdenise@camelotacademy.org.  Thank you very much! ~~Ms. Denise
We had our first “Specials” afternoon on Friday.  Upper  School students had a session on service opportunities in the community with guest instructor Christyn Klinck and our oldest students had a college prep session with Ms Lynne while the younger group had drama instruction with Ms Roni.  Middle Grades students explored our archeological site with Mary Powell and had a fascinating exploration of anthropology with Ms Judith.  Sr MAPP had a music exploration with Ms Teresa in preparation for an upcoming field trip and Jr MAPP and K had crafts with Ms Beth and Ms Amanda and games with Ms Krista. Meanwhile, the other teachers and I prepared for family conferences this week.
The Coming Week:
Family conferences FOR ALL!  Please arrive a little early and with some advance thought as to your talking points.  Please remember that Middle Grades and Upper School students are required to attend their conference.  You’ll be joined by your student’s teachers in reviewing pre-test results and the goals for the year.  Please allow time to complete and return our school survey at the conclusion of your conference.
Details of Note About This Week:
-Upper School – no classes all week
-Middle Grades – classes on Monday only – Optional Care available Tuesday-Friday (must sign up in advance)
-K and MAPP – classes on Monday and Tuesday only – Optional Care available Wednesday-Friday (must sign up in advance)
-No lunch service this week
-No clubs this week (Clubs start next week – contact Wendy NOW for last call sign-up)
This week many prestigious colleges are in town running group info sessions in the evenings. High school students and their families should take advantage of these opportunities to meet reps and to “shop” schools that are located far away.    Also- of note to all – DPS is hosting a large college fair at Northgate Mall today (Sunday) from 1-4 PM.  The event is free and open to all.  Please check out the guidance calendar on our website:

Finally, Mr. Mike is looking for Parent Service help next Saturday, October 8 for cleaning and sprucing up in preparation for our October 15 Open House.  Please contact him directly at mike@camelotacademy.org if you are interested.
Thanks and I’ll see you in conference!
Best,
Thelma
