Greetings!
Thanks to everyone - especially our incredible faculty - for the great work in conferences last week. A huge thank you to teacher Lori Hilliard who covered things magnificently in my absence. My daughter and I got back from our college trip last night - saw four colleges - ruled 2 out - great testimony to the need to visit campuses in person. The school she was most interested in before the trip was ruled out in five minutes and a school she thought she had no interest in has made the “short list” It is a lot of work to check out colleges thoroughly and well - and it is never too early to start!
Thank you to all of the parents who sponsored an Upper School student for a job shadow experience this week. Students are reminded to bring the completed job shadow forms in to receive credit for the experience.
Congratulations Camelot folks on the production of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Iolanthe this weekend at the Community Church of Chapel Hill (106 Purefoy Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27514). The show features Camelot students Lennon Klinger-Mehrbach and Lance Wilkes as Peers, and Ryn WIlkes as the Fairy Fleta. Our performance instructor, Glenn Mehrbach, produces, directs and provides musical direction for the show. The final performance is today at 3 PM - check it out!
Tomorrow the Upper School has a “specials” day. Students signed up in conference for one of three day-long special activities. Please be sure to dress according to the activity selected and students on the PE trip need to bring a lunch. Seniors are to report at 11AM tomorrow with ACT materials and college visit report forms in hand.
Students of all ages are reminded to return their completed Fitness Logs tomorrow!
This week is Club Preview Week. Students who are eight years old and older can choose from the selection of offerings listed on the handout sent home at conferences. (Second semester we will be adding clubs for our youngest students.) For this week, students who participate will be billed the usual after school fee. Starting next week participation requires enrollment for the semester. NOTE - we have added a photography club for students in grades 5-12 that will meet on Fridays from 4-5 PM. Parent/phtogorapher Simone Degan will lead this club starting this Friday. ALSO NOTE - the newsletter club does not start until NEXT week.
Soccer practice is this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as usual. The tournament is Friday-Saturday, times to be determined.
Parent drivers needed this Friday, October 17 for SR MAPP/Middle Grades trip to the Asheboro Zoo. If you can transport three or more students and would like to earn Parent Service by transporting/accompanying these classes to the zoo on Friday please let me or teacher Kelly Grove know ASAP. You do not need to have a student in one of these classes to participate.
This Saturday, October 18, all 10th, 11th and 12th graders need to be on campus for testing. The 10th and 11th graders need to arrive by 8 AM for the PSAT test. The 12th graders need to arrive by 9 AM for the final ACT practice test. NOTE - the “real” ACT test is the following weekend, Saturday, October 25. (NOTE-if the soccer tournament schedule presents any conflicts with this testing schedule students need to see me immediately to make alternate plans.)
Have a great week!
Best,
Thelma
