Greetings!
Congratulations to ninth grader Ryn Wilkes who has been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award. In order to win this award Ryn needed to demonstrate self-discipline, time management, originality, initiative and complete a long-term service project.
Also, congratulations to Ryan Siebens whose name was inadvertently left off of the Module 2 Honor Roll list.
We’re entering a big week of teacher attendance at professional conferences. On Monday and Tuesday Ms Kelly and Ms Michelle will be attending a conference for elementary teachers, on Thursday and Friday Mr Dan will be at a science teachers' conference and on Friday Ms Annie will attend a math teachers' conference! I’m really proud that our school supports this kind of professional development - it is reenergizing to our teachers and keeps our classrooms in touch with best practices from across the country and the world.
Tomorrow (Monday) the basketball season starts with after school practices at Yates. Please note the schedule that was sent home - pick up on Monday and Wednesday from Yates at 5:30 PM, pick up on Tuesday at 7:15 PM. On Tuesdays students have the option of leaving school and meeting at Yates by 5:30 PM or of staying for study hall and being transported by the school at 5 PM. In order for players to participate they must have their paperwork turned into the office. We have a HUGE season lined up with more games versus more schools than ever.
Mid Semester is this Friday. Mid-semester grades/warnings will be mailed home the following week. It is important that students use this week to get caught up on any outstanding assignments so that the grades recorded will be an accurate reflection of student standing. This is especially important for seniors as these grades will be requested by colleges.
Friday is also a big day in terms of special activities that are planned. The Lower School will celebrate Fall Festival with a host of special activities from disco to face painting. The older students and parents will be supporting these activities under the leadership of Miss Kelly. Please note that students have the option of wearing costumes but they must adhere to school-appropriate guidelines which prohibit anything gory, weapons, ghosts, witches, devils, etc. Middle and Upper School students will be attending the Nasher Art Museum on Friday morning under the leadership of Ms Celia. Students will go home with permission slips tomorrow that need to be returned on Tuesday. Please note that parent drivers for this trip need to arrive at school by 9:15 AM and can expect to be finished by 11:30 AM.
Check out www.Healthelunchkids.com for the many new options for larger appetites and for the Halloween specials.
Finally, the soccer finale celebration has been scheduled for Thursday, November 6 at 5:30 PM at the Golden Corral by Target. Soccer players will be treated to dinner and we’ll gather to recognize the hard work and growth of everyone on the team.
Have a great week.
