Weekly Update 10/25/09

Greetings!

Welcome to the
newest member of our Camelot Family - Sr MAPP student John Henry Baker.

As many of you know,
seventh grader Grace Kirkpatrick is spending the semester in New York City due to her dad’s work assignment. The family has turned this time into a marvelous learning adventure that Grace captures beautifully in her blog.

ILLNESS UPDATE: As of this hour I have heard from several families. Many students who were ill last week are now better. A few from the Upper School are still sick. I haven’t yet been told of any new Upper School illness and so far I have only one report of illness in the Lower School and one on faculty (Krista). If the information I receive later in the day changes this picture substantially I will send another email but otherwise it looks like all divisions of the school will be open tomorrow as usual.

Parent Service Jobs:

- Need
porch flowers redone with fall blooms (pansies?) before the November 8 Open House (email me if interested)
-Need parent (s) to review info I have on
online auctions and to take the lead on getting such an activity in place as a fundraiser for our scholarship fund (email me for info)
-Mike needs people interested in working on a Saturday morning between now and mid-December to help with
leaf raking. Contact Mike directly at Mike@camelotacademy.org.

WEekly Update 10/11/09

Greetings!

We welcome our newest student and our newest faculty member to our Camelot family. Welcome
Logan Faulkner and family to the Jr MAPP classroom and welcome Brittain Peck as our art and Lower School Spanish teacher.

We’ve finished a very busy week of conferences and fine-tuned our student learning plans. T
hanks to all of the parents and other conference attendees for their time and input. I personally attended
many conferences across the grade levels and I continue to believe that the time we set aside for this exchange of information is among our most valuable traditions. I also have to say that as I watched the teachers executing these conferences I couldn't have been more proud or impressed. We are very fortunate to have this talented and dedicated group of educators at our school.

The
Module 1/2 Honor Roll (grades 6-12) and Merit Award (younger Middle Grades) students will be announced in Morning Meeting on Monday. They are: Molly Williams, Michael Berro, Jung-In Yoon, Ryn Wilkes, Ryan Siebens, Amber Rogers, Sarah Chetty, Meg Rusconi-Warner, Liz Reeder, Josh Pettway-Hinton, Bri Oleson, Lennon Klinger-Mehrbach, Max Fried, Zachariah Claypole-White, Josh Stallings, Rachel Roush, Elisabeth Parker, Olivia Arges, Alex Berro, Ben Kirby, and Angela Dodson and for Merit Awards Danny Sutton and Wyatt Grose.

Congratulations to the Camelot Knights soccer team on their second win of the season last week. As their season is drawing to a close at the end of this month, we are going to run a “fan day” this Wednesday. Students in Middle Grades and Upper School who would like to attend will be transported by the school to our home field at Twin Lakes Park. The game is at 4 PM. Students will be transported back to Camelot for pick up by 5:30 PM. Younger students are encouraged to attend with a parent. Fans who plan to attend are encouraged to wear the school colors (purple and gold). In order for your student to be transported to and from the game by the school I must receive an email giving your permission. The rain date is the following Wednesday, October 21.

Clubs are up and running as of this week. Due to instructor illness last week Sketchpad will meet as a preview week this week and the new meeting day is Thursdays. The following clubs had insufficient enrollment and are canceled for now – but will be reintroduced at a later time:
Running club, Upper and Lower School art club and Songwriting.

The online lunch system has launched – and as predicted we have had a few bumps. The most common problem thus far is with folks trying to set up new accounts without allowing turn around time for the account to be approved. Please remember that if you wish to set up a new
account you should allow 48 business hours for that account to become operational before you place an order. Each week from here on out the order deadline is Wednesday night at 11:59 PM. Ms. Wendy is braced for some discrepancies this week and so we have ordered extra pizza to be
used as a back up for any order mix-ups throughout the week. Please be patient as we iron out any problems – I think that in the long run this system will work better for all involved. We owe a huge
THANK YOU to parent (and Camelot alum Class of ‘88) Brennan Stephens for the countless hours he has worked to set up this system over the past several months.

Finally, next
Saturday, October 17, all 10th and 11th graders will report to Camelot to take the PSAT. Information and details were distributed at conference. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Weekly Update 10/4/09

Greetings!

Congratulations to
senior Molly Williams who has been named a Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Molly’s scores on the PSAT last October have placed her in the top 3.5% of the over 1.5 million students who took the test.

As you are aware, this week is
conference week for all Camelot families. As such, there are many schedule implications:

1) Upper School students have no class all week. Middle Grades students only have class on Monday. Lower School students only have class on Monday and Tuesday. No classes for any students this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

2) There is no lunch service this week.

3) The deadline to set up lunch accounts for the first week of online lunch orders is tomorrow (Monday). Lunch orders for the week of October 12 must be placed before midnight this Wednesday. Follow the link from our website for the lunch order form and directions.

4) There are no clubs this week including no Morning Band tomorrow for Middle Grades students.

5) Optional Care is available by prior reservation on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

6) Soccer players need to make their own driving arrangements to the Wednesday and Friday games. There is practice at Forest Hills park tomorrow (Monday). Middle School soccer players will be transported by the school, as usual, to practice. Upper School students (who do not have school tomorrow) should be at the field by 3:30 PM.

7) All Middle Grades and Upper School students have homework over this break. This is not a “vacation” in the way of the Thanksgiving or the Holiday breaks. In order for students to meet their semester goals they will need to work on both Academic Fair and classroom assignments. Parents are asked to check assignment notebooks sooner rather than later during the time off to avoid any last minute stress.

8) All Middle Grades and Upper School students are required to attend their family conference. If a student is not present we will need to reschedule. Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes ahead of your conference time to review any student work available to you. Also, please plan to stay for about 10 minutes after your conference to complete the Parent Survey. We ask that you not take the survey with you to complete later but that you plan to complete it on the day of your conference. Your candid feedback is very important to us.

9) Camelot Math Advisor Annie Tally is running sessions this week for Upper School students on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and on Friday morning. Students who want to work with a teacher on math assignments or on Academic Fair projects may sign up for small group help at the nominal rate of $9 per hour. Limited space remains. Please call Wendy for to reserve a spot.

Other Items:
The
following clubs need more enrollment to run. If you are interested please let Wendy know on Monday before final decisions are made:

Monday - Clay Club and Running Club (may be offered again after soccer season)
Tuesday - Lower School Art Club
Thursday- Sketchpad (note new day) - will run a preview on Thursday, Oct 15
Friday - Song writing and Upper School Art Club

Mr. Glenn is still looking for those
needed items for the performance bands. Please let us know if you have any items to donate/lend.

Sign up for
Spain trip - deadline is November 1.

Thanks and I’ll see you in conference!

Best,

Thelma
